Notes & Reviews:

The fifth volume of the complete Mendelssohn symphonies includes the famous "Scottish" Symphony. 2009 is not only the anniversary of Haydn's death, but also the bicentennial of Mendelssohn's birth! Thus, Thomas Fey and the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra have decided that 2009 will become their "Mendelssohn Year," with a series of new recordings of the complete "symphonies" - both the well-known orchestral scores and the amazingly accomplished string symphonies composed while Mendelssohn was still a youth.

Gramophone Magazine
Thomas Fey and his eagerly responsive Heidelberg orchestra cleave closely to the composer's prescribed tempi in all four movements [of the Scottish]. The upshot, with a lean, athletic 'period' sonority and sparing use of rubato, is virtually the swiftest, certainly the most abrasive Scottish on disc
