Notes & Reviews:

Her recordings of Sarasate's music for violin and piano have earned the young violinist Tianwa Yang praise for her "great polish and confidence" and American Record Guide describing her playing as "perfect". This disc is her first volume of the Spanish virtuoso-composer's music for violin and orchestra, a delightful survey of some of his most bewitching and demanding creations. Albert Spalding's description of Sarasate's playing could well apply to Tianwa Yang's interpretations: "His violin sang like a thrush, and his incomparable ease tossed aside difficulties".

Reviews

Sarasate Music for violin and orchestra
This CD of Pablo de Sarasate's violin music is noted as Volume 1, which implies that more in this series will follow. If so, I will welcome them. The violinist, Tianwa Yang, is excellent, with perfect intonation and tone quality well suited to this type of music. Except for the best-known of Sarasate's works, "Zigeunerweisen," I was unfamiliar with the pieces played. This, in itself makes this a worthwhile disc for non-violinists like me. I would have liked to hear her play "Zapateado" and "Romanza Andaluza," but perhaps she has already recorded them on another CD for future issue. Ted Wilks
