Notes & Reviews:
2009 release containing a world-class performance of one of the most important classical works from Portugal. In 1990, the dramatic opera Testoride Argonauta was performed in Paris by the Orchestre Baroque du Clemencic Consort, conducted by Viennese conductor René Clemencic. Clemencic has directed this ensemble since 1957 and Orchestre Baroque du Clemencic Consort has become synonymous with performances of early music all over the world. In the opera Carvalho combines Neapolitan influences with his own ideas: the structure of the work follows the Italian opera seria of the day but in terms of orchestration, the varied arrangements of the wind instruments go far beyond the Neapolitan school.
