Notes & Reviews:
The Secret Agent is a watershed score in Philip Glass’ career in writing for ?lm. Based on a novel by Joseph Conrad, Christopher Hampton’s independent 1995 ?lm exposes the confused motives that lie at the heart of political terrorism. Glass’ score for the ? lm is lushly romantic and expressionistic. Christopher Hampton, the ? lm’s director and screenwriter, is also known for his stage and screen versions of Dangerous Liaisons and more recently for his screenplay to the award-winning Atonement. Hampton and Glass also collaborated on librettos for Waiting for the Barbarians and Appomattox.
