Notes & Reviews:

Guitarist Pablo Marquez began the guitar at the age of ten. At the age of twenty he won first prizes at the Villa-Lobos International Competition and the Radio France International Competition. A determined champion of contemporary music, his recordings for ECM New Series and Kairos have received numerous awards. He was awarded the Prize Konex in Buenos Aires in recognition of his entire career. French cellist Anne Gastinel began studying at age 4. At seventeen she won first prize in the Scheveningen International Competition and third prize in the Prague International Competition. Her recordings are acclaimed by the press and have often won awards such as the Victoire de la Musique and the Prix de l’Académie du Disque. Since 2003, she has taught at the CNSM in Lyons.

Gramophone Magazine
French cellist Anne Gastinel and Argentinean guitarist Pablo Mßrquezà bring an urbane and sophisticated yet earthy and sensual quality to the songs and dances of Falla and Granados, as well as the solo guitar and solo cello music of the great Spanish cellist and friend of AndrTs Segovia, Gaspar Cassad=. The opening Danza espa±ola No 1 from Falla's La vida breve is a revelation, Gastinel's spiccato-studded bowing showing fiery notes over Mßrquez's crisply articulated accompaniment; the Intermezzo from Granados's opera Goyescas and the same composer's tonadilla La maja dolorosa meanwhile highlights the intense beauty of Gastinel's cantabile playing.
