Touch: The Toccata Project is a collection of post-1900 piano toccatas written by American composers. The distinguished pianist Philip Amalong has uncovered many unknown gems of the genre. Amalong is known for his intelligent, passionate interpretations and diverse and challenging repertoire. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Mr. Amalong is an active recitalist and chamber music performer.

”This might be a case of sheer rhythmic strength triumphing harmony and melody; how else to explain the easy pairing of angular, chromatic music by George Anthiel and Rovert Muczynski with the sweeter material of Gian Carlo Menotti and Emma Lou Diemer? Elsewhere, distinctive voices are allowed to emerge: the beguiling lyricism of Ned Rorem, the American grandeur of Roy Harris, or the exquisite elegance of Vincent Persichetti. Philip Amalong, the Cincinnati-based pianist who has developed this ongoing project, has said that he likes to play toccatas because he likes the way they feel in his hands and in his ears. It shows.
