Bach: Suites BWV 1010 à 1012

Notes & Reviews:

The theorbo is a large, double-necked lute of the baroque period. The second neck holds an extra set of sympathetic bass strings that can be plucked as open strings, but not stopped. These characteristics made it particularly suitable for playing baroque music - even more so than the lute. Pascal Monteilhet's award-winning performances of his own transcriptions of Bach's Cello Suites demonstrate the instrument's aptitude for bringing out the harmony and counterpoint of Bach's works.
