Notes & Reviews:
In 1790, London musician/impresario Johann Peter Salomon hired Haydn for a concert series of six symphonies. One of these, premiered in London in 1792, was "The Surprise." La Gaia Scienza's recording presents a colorful quartet arrangement of the famous symphony by Haydn's contemporary Ludwig Venceslav Lachnitt in addition the three flute trios 15, 16, and 17 from Hob. XV.
