Notes & Reviews:

A succinct profile of Gaetano Donizetti's Il Paria might be summed up thusly: a melodrama (according to the libretto) whose dramatic lines are sure, decisive, unique and original. Within an exotic context, it portrays a tale whose elements are social, religious, humanitarian and psychologically transparent, and it brings this tale to a rapid and baneful end. Cast members Patrizia Cigna and Filippo Castiglioni joined Marco Berdondini and the Pro Arte Marche in this 2001 Italian live recording.

American Record Guide, January/February 2015
The excellent performance from the Teatro Masini in Faenza in April 2001 helps. The incisive, plaintive tenor of Pena Castiglioni is most expressive. Consider his cavatina 'Lontano, io piu l'amai' with its supple melody and phrasing, and the brilliant cabaletta 'Fin Dove Sor gono'. Some passages are sung in a smooth head voice. Bronikowski's just as incisive baritone joins Pena Castiglioni is a rousing Act 1 finale with chorus. He's fierce in his solo music. Verducci sounds aged. Montefusco's role, Zaide, is minimal, just along to fill out the ensembles. Berdondini is also along for the ride, a dutiful accompanist with his excellent orchestra.
