Notes & Reviews:

This album is part of a series of twenty must-have titles from the Warner Classics catalog, featuring their original and well-known iconic covers. Erik Satie's piano music is both idiosyncratic and prophetic. Aldo Ciccolini, born in Naples, but an adoptive Frenchman, affirms his reputation as Satie's most eloquent advocate in these recordings from the 1980s. When he died in early 2015, Ciccolini was hailed as "a giant of the piano."

BBC Music Magazine, August 2015
Ciccolini 1980s Satie recordings are notable for their big-boned, magisterially sculptured approach. He avoids romanticising or sentimentalising the music, and it's stronger for it.

The Times, 24th April 2015
Gavrilov seems either to be pummelling the keys into splinters or skimming them with featherlight virtuosity. As for Rattle, he does nothing wrong but has little opportunity to show his own interpretative gifts. He would surely expect, and get, more precision and clarity from today's LSO. All credit to Warner Classics, however, for seizing the moment and rescuing this (originally EMI) recording from the vaults.
