Notes & Reviews:
Handel's Teseo is an exception in all respects. Premiered in 1713 it was the first and only attempt to pay homage to the French operatic genre in England, although Handel "Italianized" it in such a way that the original model was scarcely recognizable. Sung in Italian, the libretto is included in that language as well as German - no English translation.
BBC Music Magazine
Schneidermann's performance is the finest on show, a movingly sung presentation of one of those transgressive women whom Handel portrayed so sympathetically...Neat orchestral playing and effective conducting from Konrad Junghänel.
