Notes & Reviews:
Following their recent success with this year's Classic FM/ Gramophone Award for Best of Choral, the Halle present their debut recording with Cristian Mandeal, appointed the first-ever Principal Guest Conductor in the Halle's 150-year history! A frequent guest conductor with many of the great orchestras in Germany, he specializes in the Central European and core Germanic symphonic repertoire, including the works of Bruckner. Mandeal's work is characterized with great theatricality, deep musicality, and sizzling technical skill - all of which he brings to bear dramatically in this dark and moving work.
BBC Music Magazine
Supremely well executed by the Hallé, in even finer form that we have learned to expect in the last few years. The playing is of fierce precision and immense power.
