Notes & Reviews:
One of the classic recordings of all time, in this recording from 1959 Karajan assembled a dream cast of the time. Garnering the coveted Three Stars, the Penguin Guide reviewed: "Karajan was helped by having a Viennese orchestra and chorus but most important of all is the musical teamwork of his soloists. Bergonzi emerges as a model among tenors, with a rare feeling for the shaping of phrases and attention to detail. Cornell MacNeil too is splendid. Tebaldi's creamy tone-color rides beautifully over the phrases and she too acquires new depth of imagination... Simionato provides one of the finest portrayals of Amneris."Notes & Reviews:
