The Prince Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schonborn, who came from a musically obsessed family, had fetched Giovanni Benedetto Platti (c. 1697-1763) from Italy, and wanted him to bring the splendor of Italian Baroque music to his court. Platti appears to have been closely linked with this family in his lifetime, for most of the works of Platti are found in the music collection of the Count von Schonborn-Wiesentheid. In particular, for the brother of the Prince Bishop, Rudolf Franz Erwein Count von Schonborn, who must have been an outstanding cellist, there are many works for cello, of which a few jewels are now, for the first time, included in this recording.
