Notes & Reviews:
With his Russian National Orchestra on devastating form, Pletnev does it supremely well...he's particularly good at all those slightly sinister character dances in the third act and at whipping up a tragic frenzy...It's a superb achievement.
[Pletnev's] devotion to Tchaikovsky is manifest in this performance. He knows the orchestra he created well, and how much he can ask of it; it is the orchestra as virtuoso that dominates.
