Album Summary
Conductor Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
Even though Swedish late-romanticist Natanael Berg was recognized during his own lifetime as one of Sweden's leading symphonists, he worked for many years as a qualified veterinarian. His third symphony was initially intended as a one-movement tone poem entitled Independent is the Man! It was premiered in this form in 1918, but many years later Berg came to the realization that something was missing: that's right, the woman! So during the 1930s he composed a second movement, and now the end result was known simply as Man-Woman. Here we have an early manifesto of musical women's liberation and first and foremost captivatingly spirited symphonic music!
