Notes & Reviews:

These recordings made between 1959 and 1984 by one of the 20th century's most questing and influential singers - Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau - are appearing for the first time on CD. Many songs by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven remain surprisingly little known, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau explores them in the company of superb and familiar accompanists. With Aribert Reimann joining him for intoxicating early Schoenberg and Berg, these four discs present an opportunity for discovery and rediscovery.

Gramophone Magazine
This album...brings into the light items that have lain out of view, out of mind, for long enough...in these Mozart recordings Fischer-Dieskau combines his finest subtlety of response with the most scrupulous legato where appropriate and beauty of tone at all times...The Haydn recordings have Gerald Moore for pianist, and how one appreciates afresh the sense of presence he brings.
