Notes & Reviews:
Neeme Jarvi is one of the key interpreters of Bruckner's 5th Symphony, having performed it with many orchestras around the world. It is heard here with his own Orchestra, Residentie Orchestra The Hague, one of the finest orchestras in Europe and an appropriate figurehead for the Hague as a cosmopolitan city of justice, peace and culture. Chandos is pleased to welcome back the Orchestra to the label after a ten-year break. Bruckner's Symphony 5 is widely considered to be the finest amongst his numbered symphonies and is certainly the most popular. This recording is released as a mid price SACD.
Import Hybrid-SACD pressing.
"Järvi is too good a technician not to take his players with him. Indeed the Dutch musicians display a certain daredevil nonchalance as they breeze their way through the epic 635-bar finale." -Gramophone Magazine
"In the first three movements Neeme Järvi indulges in fluctuations of tempo that are unusual these days, though they might well be what Bruckner would have expected." -BBC Music Magazine ***
