Notes & Reviews:

The young Austrian Renaissance music ensemble Mikado, built around recorder player Maja Osojnik (2008 Bank Austria Artist of the Year), presents music from the time in which England dominated the world's seas and controlled world trade, yet also experienced a period of cultural bloom: Queen Elisabeth I directed her power with theatrical display, which also included a discourse on love that she deliberately promoted. Her writing on the phenomenon of love contains an almost public character and should also be understood as a mirror of her time. In the compositions selected here, the beloved, the marriage seeking, the pious, the spurned, the unapproachable, and the longed-for women all make themselves heard.
