Notes & Reviews:

The Guardian
Though some of these seven pieces uncoil climaxes of savagery, there is a delicacy and refinement to much of the orchestral writing that sometimes recalls Dutilleux or other French composers of an earlier 20th-century generation.

Sunday Times
This is an important document, an integral recording of a huge and deeply impressive "cycle of the seven forms"... It's certainly not pretty music, but it is always deeply compelling and brilliantly imagined.

Gramophone Magazine
To the end, the orchestra speaks with one voice, as a "soloist" whose single line nevertheless contains multiple inflections, multifarious nuances... Pascal RophT and the Orchestre de LiFge Wallonie Bruxelles are consistently alert to the basic expressive shapes that lie behind the music's deceptively explicit continuities.

Reviews

Bold, satisfying
Obviously influenced by Xenakis, and as other reviewers have commented, it avoids the mathematic clinicality that sometimes pervades Xenakis' work, but retains the thick and forceful use of the entire orchestra. However, that isn't to say there isn't room for subtlety, flutes dart on the surface of "Apex" and add a brightness that complements, rather than counters the lower brass and propulsive timpani. The production is superb and the range of the recording comes across very well even on small laptop speakers. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this release.
