Notes & Reviews:

For those who associate Camille Saint-Saens only with Carnival of the Animals and the Danse macabre, large parts of the oeuvre of this universal French musician remain to be discovered. Amongst them are the five piano concertos which are presented here as a complete set on double SACD: brilliantly composed show-pieces containing an abundance of melodies. Formally, these works present some of the most modern music in French instrumental repertoire from c.1870.

"Malikova's playing is tight, with immaculate articulation, clear voicing, and nimble passagework. She demonstrates a clear connection with the score through her appropriately sentimental performance of slow movements, and her connection with the orchestra is organic and seamless. Audite's sound is especially clear and warm, and listeners utilizing the multichannel track will enjoy a nice sense of being in the midst of the orchestra. Listeners unfamiliar with concertos other than the second will find this set a welcome addition to their collections." -All Music Guide
