Notes & Reviews:
Pictures at an Exhibition is a masterwork of cultural history that can be heard from countless perspectives of Mussorgsky's brilliant solo piano piece. The interpretations range from Ravel's symphonic fireworks to the progressive rock, synthesizer and chamber-jazz versions for the past forty years. Nicola Cittaden and Philip Tarr now offer their new version played on the organ of St. Elizabetn's Church in Basel and on percussion instruments, such as Baroque timpani, side drums, cymbals and triangle, as a promenade from the Cossacks to Kiev, from Modest to Miles Davis.
