Conductor Ensemble ComposerNotes & Reviews:
Strauss; tone-poem Eine Alpensinfonie of 1915 forgoes the conventions of the symphony form and consists of twenty-two continuous sections. It depicts the experiences of eleven hours spent climbing an Alpine mountain. The work is one of Strauss' largest non-operatic compositions in terms of performing forces: the score calls for about 125 players in total. This disc features a live performance with Kurt Masur leading the Orchestre National de France.
