Notes & Reviews:

Measha Brueggergosman and pianist Justus Zeyen interpret well- and littleknown songs of Duparc, De Falla, Schubert, Hahn, Liszt, and others chosen for their soulful depth, variety, and beauty. Against the velvet of this music, Measha glitters like the star she is becoming. Measha Brueggergosman about Night and Dreams: "We wanted something that was languid, sexy, romantic, different. Also, it's repertoire that gives me the chance to really let go." She projects drama, passion, comedy, or charm as needed in any of the languages she speaks, essential for a lieder and chanson singer who must make words come alive with meaning, color, and esprit as well as vocal quality. The fervent response to her "triumphant DG debut recital" (Gramophone) made this follow-up album a must

Soprano Measha Brueggergosman releases her second solo disc on Deutsche Grammophon with this far-ranging recital devoted to the themes of night and dreams. "We wanted something that was languid, sexy, romantic, different," says Measha. "Also, it's repertoire that gives me the chance to really let go." This recital, which embraces diversity in the name of the complete experience, can be summed up as, "good singing, atmosphere, the exotic and the palette cleansers," just as if Measha were creating the perfect meal for her listeners. The program includes songs by Debussy, R. Strauss, Brahms, Liszt, Duparc, Faure, Montsalvatge, Schubert, Poulenc, Hime, Hahn, Chausson, de Falla, Wolf, Mozart and Warlock.

"Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman's solo recital, Night and Dreams, includes an exceptionally attractive selection of songs with nocturnal themes, most of them serenely radiant in tone... The warm expansiveness of her dusky voice beautifully captures the languor and sensuality that characterizes many of these songs. As fine as she is in the traditional classical pieces, her voice really blossoms in the sultry Spanish and Latin repertoire, where the music invites her to bring an improvisatory spontaneity to her interpretation. The program is put together with unusual care; the juxtaposition of the songs is often striking, and creates an inexorable and satisfying sense of flow. Pianist Justus Zeyen is a responsive and virtuosic partner. Deutsche Grammophon's sound is clear, well balanced and warmly present. A lovely album." -All Music Guide
