Notes & Reviews:

Schumann described Der Rose Pilgerfahrt that he composed in 1851 as "a very charming fairy-tale idyll." Clara Schumann played piano for the world premiere and a small choir of 20 sang. Later the work was orchestrated.

Gramophone Magazine
As the narrator, Christoph Prégardien (whose son Julian makes his mark in the small part of Max) finely balances simplicity and a Lieder singer's subtlety of inflection. Anna Lucia Richter exudes virginal innocence as the Rose, an the other solos are decently taken by members of the tightly knit chorus.
