Bronx native Willie Colon was one of the central figures of New York City's salsa boom in the 1970s. A trombonist, bandleader, composer, singer, and producer, Colon has been churning out adventurous Latin grooves (that never shy from incorporating elements of jazz, soul, rock, and other genres) from the late `60s to the 2000s. At only 16 tracks, GREATEST HITS is a rather small selection of Colon's output, but even so it is very serviceable, not to mention highly enjoyable, set. It's too slim to be a career overview, but with hits like "Che Che Cole," "Mala," and "Ojos" on offer, GREATEST HITS is hard to pass up.
