Performers Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Francis Poulenc and Guillaume Apollinaire had a wonderful relationship. Although fate hardly allowed the composer and the poet time to become acquainted personally. Holger Falk began his career as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen and studied voice in Würzburg and Milan. Today his repertoire includes classical and contemporary opera roles. In addition, Falk has made a name for himself as a highly expressive song interpreter.

International Record Review
The German Holger Falk and his Italian accomplice Alessandro Zuppardo clearly have this music in their bloodstream. Only the occasional word reveals Falk as non-native and, in general, his French is most impressive. He has an excellent sense of line, a fine sense of drama and a sweet tone that suits Poulenc well.

BBC Music Magazine
Right from the aplomb with which he negotiates an unintentionally ironic phrase seconds after the start - it translates as 'If by misfortune I had been German' - he has the agile lightness of touch and the breadth of phrasing that this repertoire insists on... Falk's singing is unfailingly persuasive and full of interior feeling.
