Notes & Reviews:

For his third recording of Mozart sonatas, the young virtuoso Thomas Albertus Irnberger has chosen the violin sonatas KV 376, KV 380, and KV 454. The first two sonatas, composed in the year 1781, are characterized in the treatment of instruments by a new concerto style, in which the violin can emancipate itself for the first time, receiving a status equal to that of the piano. The Sonata KV 454, composed in 1784 and combined with two piano sonatas in Opus VII, is presumably already determined by Freemasonry, to which Mozart felt attracted and whose symbolism influenced his compositions during this time. Irnberger and his duet partner Paul Badura-Skoda provide a refreshing interpretation of these works on original instruments from the period.
