Jonathan Carney comes from a unique musical family background—all six members of his family graduated from the Juilliard School in New York. Carney is an avid exponent of 20th-century music and his repertoire includes works by Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Bruno Maderna, John Cage, and William Bolcum. He performs regularly at contemporary music festivals throughout the world and is frequently heard on the BBC. Additional performance highlights include Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Sibelius concertos, a UK tour of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and a performance of Phillip Glass’s Violin Concerto in the US. Carney has been the concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 2002.
