Born in 1898, German violinist Georg Kulenkampff's career centered in Germany. While not a Nazi, he allowed himself to be used as a propaganda tool. Volume 1 includes a 1936 recording of the Beethoven and the Mozart was recorded in 1939. The Beethoven, which won praise for its engineering as well as the performance was issued in time to become well known before the war. Volume 2 includes his controversial recording of the Schumann Violin Concerto made in 1937.
