Notes & Reviews:
The late 19th Century was the heyday of the drawing-room ballad, when families and friends entertained each other with a wide range of songs. Sir Paolo Tosti was one of the most successful of composers of such music, alongside his contemporaries Pietro Mascagni and Stefano Donaudy. Naturally, the subject of most of these charming songs is amore: love longed for, gained and lost; sweet lips, sparkling eyes, warm arms and cold hearts.
American Record Guide
Secco has the right voice and style for these songs; it's not a superb voice, but it's very decent, with secure top notes and a lovely sotto voce. He doesn't have the splendor of Pavarotti but he has what it takes to sing this well.
Fanfare
... you'll find yourself enjoying the Mediterranean flavor and accent of Tosti's music, especially in these beautifully and sensitively sung interpretations.
