Nuova Era presents a rare recording of Rossini's first French Opera from 1826, Le siège de Corinthe. The composer partially rewrote his opera Maometto II, which enjoyed its premiere performance in 1820, turning the work into a grand opéra with wonderful ballet music. The opera was a resounding success - also thanks to the story's plot. The Greeks' struggle for independence from the Turks, the opera's main theme, found many sympathizers during the 1920s.Notes & Reviews:
