Jean-Baptiste Loeillet was born in Ghent into a family of musicians and moved to London in about 1705. He is called John Loeillet “of London” to distinguish him from another famous composer, his first cousin Jean-Baptiste Loeillet of Ghent and his elder brother Jacques Loeillet.
