Album Remarks & Appraisals:
"Drummer/composer Harris Eisenstadt continues to develop his working quintet Canada Day with trumpeter Nate Wooley, tenor saxophonist Matt Bauder, vibraphonist Chris Dingman and bassist Eivind Opsvik, founded in 2007.Canada Day II picks up on the same graceful sense of push-and-pull adventure that made the group's self-titled debut CD such an engaging listen. Freedom and structure coexist in Canada Day, which blends a classic jazz quintet sensibility with a more progressive approach that incorporates elements of modern and world styles. The melodic and harmonic range of material and the buoyant, dancing quality of the rhythms here make for a substantial recording and a very satisfying listen. Canada Day is touring the East Coast in early April with a new book of compositions; New Yorkers will have a chance to check out an octet version of the band including Ray Anderson, Joe Daley and Jason Mears on April 14 at Salt Space Gallery." -Downbeat
