- Ittai Shapira (Violin)
Notes & Reviews:
Composer and violinist Ittai Shapira's Concierto Latino represents the intertwining strands of both his musical and personal life. As the title suggests, Latin music (composers Villa Lobos and de Falla, as well as singer Shakira) was an important influence on the Concierto. The work was inspired by a traumatic incident occurring one freezing winter night in New York City when Shapira was attacked by a gang of men. Each movement recounts a portion of the experience, starting with The Attack, and ending with Party, a celebration of recovery. Shapira made a critically acclaimed Carnigie Hall debut in 2003, played on the Jerry Lewis Telethon in 2006 reaching an audience of 55 million, and recorded The Runaway Bunny with the RPO and Brooke Shields.Notes & Reviews:
