Notes & Reviews:
During his lifetime, Louis Spohr was one of the most esteemed musical personalities. With Niccolo Paganini, he was among the top violinists; as Kassel's court Kapellmeister, he had an essential influence on the renewal of orchestral culture. As a composer, he was as famous as his colleagues who would go down in history as the German masters (e.g. Robert Schumann). Now for the first time, Der Alchymist is available on CD. This 2009 performance was the first time the opera was produced since 1838.Notes & Reviews:
