Notes & Reviews:

This installment of the Robert Craft Stravinsky Edition begins with the Duo Concertant, which reconciles the contrasting timbres of the violin and piano, followed by the breezy Sonata for Two Pianos, which though written in America draws on Russian themes. The Requiem Canticles was performed at Stravinsky's funeral, while the "sacred ballad" Abraham and Isaac is a dramatic and moving retelling of the Old Testament story. The Elegie for solo viola is one of his most affecting works, and Bluebird is a loving arrangement for chamber orchestra of excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. Robert Craft, a noted conductor and widely respected writer and critic on music, literature, and culture, is in the process of recording the complete works of Stravinsky, Schoenberg and Webern for Naxos.

American Record Guide
All of these performances are satisfying. The performance of the Sonata for Two Pianos is very good. The Requiem Canticles are also done well... Richard O'Neill gives a stunning performance of one of Stravinsky's most memorable works.
