Notes & Reviews:

During his final years, Ernst Toch (1887-1964) spoke wistfully of himself as the world's most forgotten composer. The Chinese Flute and Egon und Emilie date from Toch's time teaching at the Mannheim College of Music and show him in a phase of new development - rich in color and full of humor. The quartet composed during his last year is free of vanity and uses an unusual instrumentation. Toch contributed his own unique color to the 20th century's stylistic pluralism - and is finally receiving his due.
