Notes & Reviews:
André Devaere was a young, talented pianist and composer born in Belgium. He studied at the Brussels Royal Conservatoire with a pupil of Franz Liszt, Arthur De Greef, who was also a friend of Edvard Grieg. Devaere won several prizes, and his dream was to compete with other talented young musicians in, for example, the 'Prix de Rome' and the Rubinstein competition in Vienna in 1915. Unfortunately, World War I made his plans impossible. Fate caught up with him, and Devaere was conscripted into the Belgian army. In November 1914 he was mortally wounded near St. Joris-aan-de-Ijzer, south of Nieuwpoort, Belgium.
