Notes & Reviews:
Franz Schubert was a prolific composer; however, during his lifetime he only wrote 6 Masses. Of these, his Mass in A flat is most exceptional as it was the longest Mass for him to write, and the one dearest to his heart, while the Mass in E-flat was his last and final Mass. A reporter from the Theaterzeitung reviewed the Mass after its first performance and called it "[Schubert's] last and greatest work... his finest."
