Notes & Reviews:

American composer George Gershwin has been established in the pantheon of great American composers. The volume of music he created leads many to believe that he lived much longer than his short 38 years on Earth. This recording features arrangements of some of Gershwin's most popular symphonic works and highlights many of his best-known songs. Recorded by the immensely talented United States Army Concert Band, Gershwin contains important works like Summertime, An American in Paris, and Rhapsody in Blue. The United States Army Concert Band has a worldwide reputation for extraordinary musicianship, and this album is no exception. Colonel Thomas Rotondi, Jr. leads the band on this album, a commemorative display of some of America's favorite music. Each track is played beautifully with great attention to detail, just the way George Gershwin wrote them. Now, Gershwin is being re-released at a special new price! Don't miss this opportunity to own a recording of some of the best wind band recordings available!

American Record Guide, November/December 2014
Altissimo 7329 offers a program of Gershwin arrangements in readings by the Army Concert Band. Dwayne Milburn is the arranger of Cuban Overture. In Douglas Richard's setting of 'Summertime' and 'My Man's Gone Now', Staff Sgt Leigh Ann Hinton is the fine soprano soloist; Sgt Holly Bingham takes that role in Paul Murtha's medley Fascinatin' Gershwin. Master Sgt Joseph Holt is pianist in Donald Hunsberger's arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue; the reading is passable. The album ends with a good account of Steve Satone's setting of An American in Paris.
