Notes & Reviews:

35 traditional Scottish tunes, including Auld Lang Syne, Coming Through the Rye, and many more

This repertoire finds its roots in 17th-century Scottish manuscripts. Rob Mackillop is a specialist of this repertoire; he transmits all of its beauty both as researcher at Edinburgh University and as a reputed interpreter in traditional music circles. It was at his invitation that Alpha went over to Grovesraine Manor to render an intimate practice of the Scottish traditional repertoire for two instruments that is no longer alive today. The acoustic magic of the manor's sitting room, captured by Hugues Deschaux, lets us plunge into the mysteries of ancient Scotland, between melancholy and joyful dance.
