Notes & Reviews:

A new recording of the cello music of Zoltan Kodály performed by Karine Georgian (who is highly acclaimed for her resent recording of Martinu's Works for Cello and Piano on Alto 1057.) This CD contains Kodály's Duo for Violin and Cello Op.7, Capriccio for Solo Cello, and the celebrated Sonata for Solo Cello Op.8. The Sonata, known and respected by cellists and listeners alike, is a tour de force wherein the composer, through the natural expression of the dramatic needs of this neo-romantic work, tests the limits of the instrument and proves the mettle of the performer. Likewise, the interplay between the instruments in Kodály's less often heard Duo for Violin and Cello is electric. Violinist Marco Rizzi joins Karine Georgian for this piece. A superb recording of rarely heard but brilliant repertoire.
