Igor Stravinksy: Le Baiser de la Fée / Rozhdestvensky (rec. 1966)

Album Summary

>Stravinsky, Igor : Le baiser de la fee (The Fairy's Kiss), ballet in 4 scenes for orchestra
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Hans Christian Andersen' s fairytale The Ice Maiden was taken as a basis for the libretto of Le baiser de la fée, a ballet that was ordered by Ida Rubinstein for her seasons. However, Stravinsky admitted that only some motifs were left from the Danish writer' s fairytale: the mother and her child lost in a blizzard, and the Fairy who marked the child with her magic kiss and then took him away to her miraculous world of eternal life. Using some themes from pieces by Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky dedicated his score to the great Russian composer. This CD presents a recording from 1966, made by the Great Symphony Orchestra of All-Union Radio and Television with conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky.
