Notes & Reviews:

Last December, prizewinning British pianist Leon McCawley appeared in the prestigious International Piano Series in London's South Bank, also featuring Mitsuko Uchida, Yevgeny Sudbin, and Pierre-Luarent Aimard - and SOMM's special Chopin Recital CD was released to coincide with his sold-out recital. Leon leapt into prominence at the age of 19, when he won First Prize in Vienna's Ninth International Beethoven Piano Competition and Second Prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition, building on his early success as BBC Young Musician of the Year. His early studies took him from the famous Chetham School of Music in Manchester to the Curtis Institute of Music with Eleanor Sokoloff. He broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio 3, in recital and with many of the BBC orchestras, and he has performed with Cincinnati Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and many others. His wide-ranging discography includes two Gramophone Editor's Choice Awards and a Diapason d'Or for his set of the Complete Mozart Piano Sonatas.
