Album Remarks & Appraisals:
"Out come the fiddles, harps, accordions and penny whistles for “Celtic Christmas,” as singers and groups like Aine Minogue, David Arkenstone and DruidStone arrange Celtic and American holiday songs — and a French one, “Noel Nouvelet” — for (mostly) traditional instruments. There’s even a “White Christmas” in Gaelic. It’s a cozy, folksy collection, mingling instrumental and vocal tracks. And it reclaims a wistful side in Dougie MacLean’s version of “Auld Lang Syne.”" -The New York Times
Liner Note Author: Jacob Edgar.
This bright Putumayo holiday collection features contemporary artists interpreting Christmas classics from a Celtic perspective, which makes for a refreshing seasonal playlist. Highlights include Lasairfhiona Ni Chonaola's dreamy and relaxed "Nollaig Bhan," a wonderful version of "White Christmas" redone in Gaelic, the Gothard Sisters' recast of "Little Drummer Girl" featuring plenty of fiddle, David Huntsinger's "Angels We Have Heard on High" played as an Irish reel, and Steve Schuch & the Night Heron Consort's mandolin-led "Joy to the World," among others. It all adds up to a fun and joyous listen. ~ Steve Leggett
