Ensemble ComposersNotes & Reviews:
Formed in 1999, the Calmus Ensemble is acclaimed for their fine interpretation of a wide range of musical styles - from early music to contemporary forms. Fono Forum, the renowned German music magazine, has greeted the group as rising stars of the a capella scene, and the juries of quite a number international competitions obviously agreed and gave them first prizes (Tampere/Finland, Tolosa/Spain and New York/USA). Their visible joy in making music together and the rich facets of vocal colors, combined with impeccable intonation and a striking homogeneity of sound, all make the concerts of Calmus unforgettable. The ensemble now turns their formidable talents to compositions of Psalm 116 from the 17th and 21st Centuries. Calmus has paired settings of this psalm from the 1600's by early masters such as Schuetz and Schein, and has paired them with settings written by German masters of the current age, showcasing the full range of their artistic abilities.
