Notes & Reviews:

Debut solo recording for Canadian mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, featuring rarely recorded chamber version of Mahler's 2 famous song cycles: Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen & Kindertotenlieder and a selection of Alma Mahler's Lieder. Recognized for musical savvy & great sensitivity, Ms. Boulianne is one of today's most promising singers, already sharing The Met stage with renowned singers Placido Domingo, Juan Diego Flórez, and Susan Graham. Ms. Boulianne graduated from the Juilliard School of Music in New York and the Schulich Music School of McGill University in Montreal. She completed her training with Renata Scotto, Roger Vignoles and William Christie.

BBC Music Magazine
A cunning combination, all beautifully sung.

Gramophone Magazine
Few such accomplished exponents of Rossini are able to summon up the plaintive contralto-ish sonority to create the right atmosphere for Mahler. That Boulianne can project the pervasive feeling of sadness without excessive weight is partly a factor of the 'domestic' arrangements employed...one of today's most promising singers is notably well served.

MusicWeb International, July 2012
I was at once struck by the sheer beauty of her voice, her care over nuance and her intensity in expression. It's a vibrant voice but not excessively so...There are many superb recordings of both these cycles and it is practically impossible to pick a clear winner, but Julie Boulianne belongs among the best.
