Notes & Reviews:

Schubert wrote his first theatrical work when he was fourteen and his hopes of success in the genre, never truly realized, were long-lasting. He wrote concert overtures and music for Singspiele (Song-plays), in some of which he was guided by his teacher, Salieri. The music for the melodrama Die Zauberharfe (The Magic Harp) is better known as the Overture to Rosamunde, but evidence of his captivating vitality, tunefulness and theatricality is everywhere to be heard. Of Vol. 1 of the CD release (8570328) the American Record Guide wrote: 'The Prague players relish these sun-lit and tuneful pieces and respond with great enthusiasm and affection.'

ClassicalCDReview.com
The music is enchanting throughout and includes many works that will be unfamiliar to most listeners. Excellent performances indeed... ..Lancino's Requiem offers much more opportunity for sonic display as it is scored for large orchestra and choruses along with four vocal soloists and heavy on percussion.

Audiophile Audition
The performances are bright, chipper, perfectly aligned with Schubert's broadening world view, capturing all the charming nanvetT of the earlier works and all the consummate musical-dramatic skill of the later ones. They sound very well played by a chamber orchestra - even the later overtures, which have a special litheness where bigger bands tend to lumber. The main advantage is having all of the overtures available on a single disc, in very good sound, and for about the same price as the two-volume CD set.
