Notes & Reviews:

This is an extremely important album - not only does it contain three world premiere recordings, but the Vaughan Williams Fantasia has excited and intrigued admirers of the composer and his works the world over. RVW composed the work, his first attempt at writing for the orchestra, in 1896 and revised it twice before putting it aside in 1904. His widow Ursula initially withdrew it, along with other youthful works of the composer, but later changed her mind and reinstated it (she may have well wished to have his youthful works reappraised in the light of the composer's later maturity). The Fantasia is interesting in that it already has the hallmarks of his later writing style, and is a precursor of the Sea Symphony and the Tallis Fantasia. The writing for the soloist is not at all easy, and requires someone with Mark Bebbington's effortless virtuosity to bring it off!

Fanfare Magazine, September/October 2012
Mark Bebbington is an imaginative pianist who ably commands every technical and expressive facet of these widely divergent scores, while conductor George Vass and the Ulster Orchestra provide solid support... If you are a Vaughan Williams completist or collector of music by Mathias, this disc will be a necessary addition to your music library; for collectors looking for worthy 20th-century concerto repertoire, it is recommended...
